New Laser Products to NZ Market
 |
|
A new range of SEI laser products being introduced to the New Zealand market for the first time by MatcamNZ could bring big benefits for many engineering, food and packaging companies, says Greg Hamilton, director of MatcamNZ.
Hamilton has just returned from Italy where he spent time at the SEI factory, including meeting a New Zealand-based client there who is already interested in the technololgy.
"This is the first time these products will be available in the New Zealand market and they will save companies considerable time and money", says Hamilton who has secured the distribution rights for this country.
Two SEI products he is particularly enthusiastic about include the Flexi Co2 galvo machine and the Yag G8 laser. The Flexi Co2 galvo machine can mark large areas at very high speed on materials such as paper, card, plastics, and wood etc. Hamilton says it differs from the usual plotter style laser configuration in that the galvo head sits above the material to be marked and the machine uses motors to drive mirros which then direct the laser to the appropriate place. "Because of its precision offered by the mirror system it can both die and kiss cut. It is also fast - about a tenth of the usual time to laser a product. As it uses a dynamic beam expander, products can be marked on several different levels in one set-up. This laser can be mounted in a production line so it gives the flexibility of short or long runs. It is also possible to buy a movable table and software to extend the working area if desired. Most machines of this type only have a small firing field, however, with the Flexi we can mark up to an area of 300mm x 800mm. This means the machine has speed combined with great flexibility". Hamilton says the Yag model works on similar technology but using a different frequency of laser it is designed for marking metals and impregnated plastics.
The MatcamNZ range also includes products by MultiCam LP USA, Laser Tools & Technics, Dardi Corporation, and Thermark Laser Marking Technology. Hamilton says a key benefit to his clients is that he tailors the solutions he offers to their budgets and offers a range of CNC cutting solutions in a variety of price brackets. Hamilton aims to develop ongoing relationships with clients so he offers comprehensive backup and support and only deals with suppliers that have distributors and technology centres located worldwide.

With many local engineering firms finding their work has significantly decreased this year, Auckland based company, MatcamNZ has been helping some to reverse this trend with a new range of CNC cutting solutions.
"Its really opened up opportunities for companies that were previously struggling to find enough work. Some have been able to take on work they couldn't do before adding an extra service for clients and instead of out sourcing doing things inhouse," says MatcamNZ Director Greg Hamilton.
Hamilton says a key benefit to his clients is that he tailors the solutions he offers to their budgets and offers a range of CNC cutting solutions in a variety of price brackets.
Hamilton says he has found it rewarding to help New Zealand engineering companies thrive in the current environment. "It can be pretty tough out there at the moment but we can usually find a way for a company to bring in extra work and enhance their manufacturing processes".

MatcamNZ Sponsors Boat in Trans Tasman Thundercat
The MatcamNZ sponsored boat and crew were part of a 12 team challenge that headed over to Australia in June for the 2009 Trans Tasman Thundercat Challenge.
Racing was held over 3 days on the Gold Coast surf beach which provided spectacular jumps, thrills and spills with boats reaching 80 kph in the surf. Surf-cross races start with a 'Le-mans' style start where the driver dashes out into knee deep water to the co-pilot holding the boat. The teams then battle it out over several laps on a rectangular shaped course running parallel to the shoreline in as little as 300mm of water. The finish is dramatic as boats skid up the beach for co-pilots to leap out the front of their boats and run to the FINISH line.
On the 3rd day all boats entered the long distance racing down to Surfers paradise and back, following the coatline. During the longhaul event there is a compulsory stop where competitors must come ashore. Endurance, reliability and team organization become very important. Longhaul races can range between 100 - 200km with generally a mass start of all competitors.
NZ Won the Series by over 1000 points!!!!

LTT Launches New i-Laser at International Trade Show
Laser Tools and Technics Corp (LTT) has unveiled its new i-Laser 3000 and i-Laser 4000 models at the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago and the Taiwan Trade Show. A wide range of industry segments attended the shows and according to Greg Hamilton from MatCamNZ the main application requests were for thin film laser cutting,
glass laser engraving, ITO laser engraving and etching, glass laser cutting and logo laser marking for electronics products/components.
At the Taiwan Trade Show LTT also successfully launched its HLM-High Speed Large Area Marking System for ITO film dry etching, ITO film cutting and solar cell film dry etching. Also launched was the SLC-PB-100 laser-cutting machine for polariser/optical film/ITO film.
Hamilton says many inquiries were received from domestic customers and that most customers seemed interested in the applications for metal laser marking/engraving on tools, moulds and aluminium/brass/steel plates.
“Because of this feedback LTT is now looking at developing a modified version of the i-Laser 3000 and 4000 to allow marking directly on metals. We'll need to collect more market information for such demand and try to present an economic model but it's under research and evaluation.”
